About

Masumi (Miyasaka Brewery)

Masumi was founded in 1662. Blessed by the pure water and cool climate of Shinshu-Suwa, they continue to brew sake named after “Masumi no Kagami” (Mirror of Truth), a treasure of Suwa Taisha Shrine.
In addition to an excellent prize-winning record at competitions, they are also renowned as the origin of the superb sake yeast called Brewing Association Yeast No. 7, which is currently used by the majority of sake breweries in Japan today.

Region Suwa

Suwa is a fascinating city located about two hours north of Tokyo by train.
The city was developed around Suwa Lake and is known for its history, culture, and arts, which attract many visitors.
Its history is so old as the Suwa Taisha Shrine, located in Suwa, is mentioned in Kojiki, the oldest book in Japan. (Records of Ancient Matters).
Also, the magnificent mountains surrounding Suwa make a sea of clouds appear in spring and fall and attract many visitors to catch a glimpse of this spectacular sight.
Suwa’s nature not only shows its beauty but also creates essentials for sake brewing that as natural water from the Yatsugatake and Kirigamine mountains, a significant temperature difference between day and night, and clear air.
Miyasaka Brewery brews sake with a fusion of these elements, and the knowledge, skill, effort, and experience of the Toji, so its taste is truly an “art enjoyed on the palate”.
This great event is an opportunity to see Suwa’s beautiful nature through images and learn attractions of Suwa through Miyasaka Brewery’s sake.
We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity and get an idea of the place to visit on your next trip to Japan.
